It does light up at first, but I guess it doesn't stay on after it cycles through all the colors when you first turn it on. If you press and hold the button the light turns on again, but it does appear that the default setting is to turn off the lights after one cycle unless you decide to change that by pressing and holding the power button. The mist does smell a bit strange, but I don't know if that's due to the water or the filter

Its a pitty, that you have to use your own power charger, cause you get just the cable without the actual charger to use into electricity. The lights are nice jet not as bright as on video and they are turning off sometimes so I have to reset all machine to make it shine again. Even so, verry good product for the price and incredibly cute.
